Ding Changsheng is an orphan in Xiaoyu Village. After the local tyrant Chen Xiao seized his fish pond and left him with nowhere to turn, he happened to meet Kou Dapeng, the son-in-law of the county magistrate and owner of a mine. Changsheng willingly accepted him as a foster father to find a source of support. Later, he rescued Yang Fengxi, the wealthy young lady, from Chen Xiao's illegal detention. With the backing of the Yang family's capital, he succeeded in winning the right to mine and gradually rose to the position of deputy factory head. Caught in the power struggle between Kou Dapeng, Yang Fengxi, and Zhu Li, Changsheng cleverly plotted to break up the illegal mining gang, bringing Chen Xiao and Zhu Li into the light of the law. In the end, he stayed true to his principles, refused ill-gotten profits, completed his reversal, and redeemed his own life.
