Night of the Caged Phoenix
46 episode · 46/46 tập
The Lord of the Lin family decides to hand over the reins of the clan to his chaste widowed daughter-in-law, Tong Phieu Nhien. This move enrages Lady Lieu Uyen Dinh, who currently holds real power. To win everything back, Lieu Uyen Dinh sends her handsome, trusted bodyguard Bui Lam to seduce Tong Phieu Nhien and tarnish her reputation as the "Lotus Saint." Lieu Uyen Dinh even personally trains Bui Lam in psychological manipulation and the art of toying with women's hearts. Under orders, Bui Lam repeatedly uses self-sacrifice and staged "accidents" to breach Tong Phieu Nhien's steadfast defenses, causing the "Red Lotus" mark, which appears only when her body is stirred, to bloom again and again. Caught between desire and reason, the two suffer painfully and nearly cross the line and are exposed. In this dangerous game, Bui Lam fakes his affections but falls genuinely in love with Tong Phieu Nhien. When she learns she was only a pawn being used, Tong Phieu Nhien is so wounded she turns ruthless, setting a trap to counterattack. She lures Bui Lam into poisoning the old lord's medicine and exposes him on the spot, bringing everything to a final judgment. In court, Tong Phieu Nhien proves her innocence with a blood test. In despair, Lieu Uyen Dinh kills her husband and then takes her own life. In the end, Tong Phieu Nhien chooses mercy, forgiving Lieu Uyen Dinh and letting Bui Lam leave to test his sincerity. Three years later, Bui Lam returns successful and proposes to Tong Phieu Nhien, now the true master of the Lin family. The two close the door on their painful past and officially become husband and wife.
