Phương Nguyên, second young master of the Phương family, fell gravely ill at nine and has been dim-witted ever since. Yet he possesses an extraordinary talent for Go, and whenever he touches the stones, his mind becomes clear again. His elder sister is pushed aside by a cousin who schemes to ruin her. In the first round of the tournament, with Phương Nguyên's help, she escapes danger. But the cousin refuses to concede and switches to direct Go matches, sending masters to face her, nearly leaving her defeated. In desperation, the cousin forces Phương Nguyên to take the board himself. This awakens all his hidden gifts. Phương Nguyên decides the fate of the game with a single stone, and resolves the crisis threatening the entire family.
