Lured by a slightly higher price, the villagers abandon Mr. Lam, who runs a drying service, to sell their wet corn to the Ma family trader. He squeezes the price down and promises a better offer once the corn is dry, but vanishes just as heavy rain threatens to ruin the entire harvest. Mr. Lam sets aside old grudges, brings his machines to save the corn, and helps them see that trust and reliability are worth more than a quick profit.
